Hunting Society
Boč on Kozjak
Hunting Song
History
The organization was founded in 1946. At that time, the hunting club, or Lovska Druzina (LD), had 2,327 ha of hunting area, and 15 hunters or members were registered. Back then the club consisted of two LDs in the area of the current LD, namely Selnica and Boč na Kozjaku. Their mutual cooperation led to the merger of both hunting clubs in 1950, and the joint decision was to call the LD, “Boč na Kozjaku”. Its first president was Jože Gomivnik. The first records about this LD exist only from 1955.
The Second World War resulted in an empty and abandoned hunting ground. There were many predators, and a large amount of poaching was noticeable. The fire in Zagozd in 1943 also took its toll and reduced the forest for several long years. It was in this particular part of the hunting ground that chamois settled after the fire. With professional planning, management and the work of hunters, the game population improved significantly. The small game population increased. Pheasants were introduced as early as 1956, rabbits in 1968 (34 rabbits were released). The wild rooster population was on the rise after the war, but then began to decline. Wild boar and deer also began to appear.
According to the records, the first wild boar was hunted by Mr. Peterka in 1955. The first deer was hunted in 1952 on Veliki Boč. The hunting plan for 1969 was as follows:
32 roe deer
2 chamois
70 rabbits
65 pheasants
5 wild boars.
In 1972, Jože Žiberna hunted the first boar, which weighed 183 kg when cleaned. With the appearance of wild boars, damage made by them started to incline. The increased population of wild boars had a negative impact on the population of wild roosters and field partridges. In May 1979, Anton Zupanič captured a wild rooster.
LD adopted new Rules and Regulations of LD at the general meeting in 1976, and on September 16, 1976, a twinning agreement with LD Lenart was signed, which still exists today. From its inception to the present day, the duties of the president or elder of the LD have been performed by:
Jože Gomivnik, 1946 -1971
Rudi Podgornik, 1971-1990

Anton Pečovnik, 2004 - 2008
Jože Deželak, 2008 - 2011

In the period between 1983-2003, Vera Arnuš was the treasurer, i.e. twenty years. The longest tenure can also be considered the tenure of the secretary of the LD, which Jože Žiberna held in the period 1971-2003.
The LD adopted a decision relatively late and renovated the Zgornji Kovač homestead (at the initiative of Anton Gradišnik) and turned it into a hunting lodge. The then elder Maks Garmut was also the president of the construction committee, which was the driving force of the team. Most members participated in the construction, but Anton Fike and elder Maks Garmut especially proved themselves. The hunting lodge was built in 1995.
The hunting ground border runs from the middle of the Drava River, where the municipality Zg. Vurmat starts. Then the border runs along the middle of the Drava River to the border of the municipality Sp. Slemen and Sp. Selnica, and along the Bistrica stream to the state border with Austria. Then it runs along the state border to the west, to the border of the municipalities Sp. Vurmat and Zg. Boč southwards, first towards Zrnkov graben and then along the Šturmov stream to the starting point along the Drava River.
After the adoption of the new Game and Hunting Act in 2004, the Boč na Kozjaku Hunting Society signed a concession agreement for a period of 20 years on 19.6.2009. The Boč na Kozjaku Hunting Society manages the hunting ground in an exemplary manner and fulfills the annual hunting ground plan. The Boč na Kozjaku Hunting Society falls under the Pohorje Hunting Management Area, with a total area of 3,449 ha, with a hunting area of 3,239 ha and 210 ha of non-hunting area. The Boč na Kozjaku Hunting Society currently has 42 members on 1. 1. 2023. The average age of the members is 59.11 years.
